Hello and Welcome!

Doulas are trained professionals who provide expert guidance for the service of others through a significant health-related experience, such as childbirth, miscarriage, induced abortion or stillbirth.

During perinatal care, a doulas presence means birthing parent is: less likely to need Pitocin, less likely to have a cesarean birth, less likely to use any pain medication, and more likely to rate their childbirth experience positively (see DONAs Position Paper here.)

During the postpartum period, doulas help support infant feeding, parent’s emotional and physical recovery from childbirth, infant soothing, and coping skills for new parents.

In the heartrending episode of miscarriage or stillbirth, doulas provide guidance and support to people who experience loss at any gestation in pregnancy.

Birth isn’t for everyone, and for those needing to terminate their pregnancy, an abortion doula is there before, during, and in the aftermath for people who are having abortions. As an abortion doula, I’m able to provide practical support for the physical, emotional, and psychological symptoms that are related to abortion.

A doula who can offer support on all of these paths is referred to as a “full-spectrum doula”, which is The Allied Doula’s mission.
